"The word 'theatre' comes from the Greeks. It means the seeing place. It is the place people come to see the truth about life and social situation" - Stella Adler. The International Thespian Society is a service organization rooted in theatre; it has been in action for thousands of years and has participants all over the world. It began in ancient Greece with Thespis, the father of Grecian tragedy, and has been an active group to this day. The Thespian Society here at Marietta is made up of students from all backgrounds and ages with a like-mindedness catered towards performing - not only on stage but as an active member of their communities. Whether you are on stage, off stage, costume, lights, or tech, the Thespian Society here at MHS is the place for you!
how do I become a thespian?
To become a thespian, you must have at least 10 thespian points. Points can be accumulated throughout your high school career through participation in the arts, including everything from going to see a local theatre performance to stage managing a school production. For more information on how to acquire points, follow this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JINUHVyIW2MOKFl0Fkcnd760O1kp8kGuGBYMWeSCCk0/edit#gid=0 After a member acquires their 10 points, they can be inducted in our annual induction ceremony, after which they will become a lifelong member of the International Thespians Society, and get a pin, membership card, and year-long subscription to "Dramatics", a thespian-focused magazine.
